I don’t know about you, but I love me some smoked salmon. However, if you’re quite poor like I am I highly doubt you have a smokehouse or have the money to go buy expensive pre-made smoked salmon. So this is my “Broke and Healthy” way of getting a smokey flavor without a smokehouse.

In a bowl or bag, pour in a few splashes of worcestershire sauce, a splash of soy sauce, a healthy sprinkle of garlic and onion powder….and about a teaspoon of the special ingredient: liquid smoke. I’m usually a stickler for using ingredients that I know where it came from and exactly what’s in it. I was hesitant to use liquid smoke at first, till I found out that it’s literally processed by burning wood, condensing it, then passing it through water in the factory to pick up that smokey flavor. Cool huh?

Put the salmon in the bowl or bag and let it marinate as long as you can. I was only patient enough to let it sit for about 5 minutes and it worked pretty well.

After marinating, place the salmon in a very hot, greased pan that can go in the oven. Go ahead and pour the extra marinating liquid right on top of the salmon.

Put it in a hot oven that has been set on BROIL for only about 3-5 minutes. Cooking fish this method is definitely my favorite way so far. What’s nice is that because you’re not flipping the fish, it doesn’t get cooked on both sides and it comes out incredible fluffy! By the way, if you don’t have a pan that can be put in the oven, just use a nonstick pan and flip it halfway through the cooking process. OR you can try to cook it on lower heat and cover the pan with foil.

Serve it any way you want, but I had it with some leftover brown rice and a hard boiled egg. Sounds weird, right? Well the egg tasted so good with the salmon!
