Sauteed Green Beans & Garlic – $.62

Growing up I always disliked beans because we always had canned beans, which were mushy and dull. Honestly, I haven’t had much green bean experience until the summer of 2008 when I was introduced to sauteed fresh beans by a wonderful family in my church. We’d get there early and gather around a bag of fresh beans, pop the ends off and put them in a bowl for the cook–a nice way to get your guests involved in the cooking, by the way. Around the table of usually 12 or more, beans were always the big hit.

 Say hi to your fresh bag o’ beans.

Pop the ends off and rinse.

Add the beans to a heated, oiled skillet with a pinch of salt.

Cook on medium/medium high heat until the beans have some color on them. Right when you start to see some color, add a few cloves of garlic and another nice pinch of sea or kosher salt.

Take off the heat once the garlic is golden brown, but not burned.

Update:  I recommend making this Bacon Balsamic Herb Dressing and squeezing a tablespoon or so into the pan for just 2-3 minutes before they’re done.

Taste for saltiness, and serve hot! Best beans ever.
